Hymen restoration or hymenoplasty is a surgical procedure which uses the remaining hymenal ring tissue to reattach the hymen after it has been torn. This procedure can only be performed on women who have not had chldren.
Women requesting this procedure do so primarily for religious or cultural reasons. Pre-marriage virginity is sometimes a requirement and in some cultures may be met with harm if the soon to be bride is found not to be a virgin.
Hymen repair generally takes 30 minutes and is performed in the office, under local anesthesia. A tin layer of tissue is reattached to the vaginal opening and penetration will tear it and cause bleeding.*
Recovery takes between 4 to 7 weeks. No sexual intercourse until after 7 weeks.*
